We are excited to present a special Skillshare Workshop Series at Hart Haus, featuring three innovative artists from diverse disciplines: Kachi (Visual Arts), Wong Chun Hoi (Hoi9) (Sound Art), and Kenny Wong (Mechatronics). These workshops are designed for SATA mentees and open to the public, offering unique insights into the intersection of art and technology.
Session1: Kachi – Visual Arts & Augmented Reality
Kachi led an engaging session focused on media art and augmented reality (AR). The workshop began with an introduction to his own artistic practice and a historical overview of VR, AR, and XR technologies. Participants were then introduced to Adobe Aero, an AR tool used to create digital overlays in physical spaces.
In the second half of the session, attendees visited an exhibition on the 3rd floor of Hart Haus. There, they experimented with placing AR images in the gallery space—essentially “hacking” the environment to reinterpret existing artworks. This hands-on experience encouraged participants to explore how digital layers can create new meanings and interactions within traditional art spaces.
Session2: Wong Chun Hoi (Hoi9) – Sound Art & Transducer Technology
Hoi9 delivered a lecture introducing the fundamentals of sound, including how it operates and its frequency characteristics. The workshop then focused on a specialized tool: the transducer loudspeaker (also known as a sound exciter)
Using transducers, attendees turned everyday objects into speakers by attaching the devices and feeling the vibrations. This workshop encouraged a deeper understanding of how sound can inhabit and transform space, sparking reflection on the relationship between sound, material, and perception. Participants left with a new appreciation for the hidden sonic potential of their surroundings.
Session3: Kenny Wong – Mechatronics & Interactive Art
In Kenny’s session, hands-on workshop explores the integration of technology in art, focusing on the presenter’s experiments with disassembling LCD monitors, using Arduino, and incorporating accelerometers.
Participants ask to create an interactive art through sensory tools, fostering new perspectives on interactivity, perception, and the material use of technology in artistic practice through demonstrations and sharing.
